Lessons

I have been a long-time substitute at the New Jersey School of Music in Medford NJ, and I recently joined their teaching staff as of Summer 2024. I also taught private lessons and chamber music while studying at the University of Delaware.

I am excited to offer private cello lessons at my studio in Princeton, NJ, in Medford at New Jersey School of Music, or over Zoom. I am willing to teach all ages and skill levels.

In my previous teaching experience, I have best connected with:

  • Adult beginners who are familiar with another instrument
  • Students age 10-15 who learn notes quickly and are excited to take on challenging repertoire, but who could use some help focusing on details and technique
  • Neurodiverse students who struggle with executive functioning
    • This was me in high school. Today, time management is one of my special interests!
  • High school and community orchestra players who want to work on tricky passages before rehearsals start up in the fall

Please note:

  • I use the Suzuki repertoire books as part of my curriculum, but I am not Suzuki Certified or trained in the Suzuki Method
  • Over the past decade, I have developed the ability to sing while playing cello. This uncommon skill requires a strong command of the instrument, a physically healthy technique, and a lot of focus and intonation practice. I didn’t even attempt to sing with my instrument until graduate school. I am willing to work on “singing cello” with adult professionals and advanced amateurs with a strong music theory background. (not recommended for beginner/intermediate students)
